Ingredients
Scale
- 2 medium apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Granny Smith)
- 1 to 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar (or regular sugar)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tablespoons oats
- 2 tablespoons flour (or almond flour)
- 2 tablespoons chopped nuts (optional)
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey (optional)
Instructions
- Prep the apples. Peel them if you want, or leave the peel on. Slice into thin pieces.
- Start the apples. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Make the topping. Mix oats, flour, a pinch of salt, and nuts in a bowl. Add melted butter and mix until crumbly. Drizzle in maple syrup or honey for sweetness.
- Crisp it up. Lower heat to medium-low, sprinkle the topping over apples, and cover the skillet for 2 to 3 minutes. Uncover and toast for another 3 to 5 minutes.
- Rest, then eat. Let it sit for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, pair with vanilla ice cream, Greek yogurt, or whipped cream. Optional toppings include honey or caramel sauce.
