- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for tossing)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for tossing)
Instructions
- Preheat the oil in a deep fryer or a cast-iron pot to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon until combined.
- In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter, then combine with the dry ingredients, being careful not to overmix.
- Drop spoonful of dough into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
- Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
- Toss warm donut holes in cinnamon-sugar mixture while still hot.
Notes
For a gluten-free option, consider using a gluten-free flour blend. If you don’t have buttermilk, mix one tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar with one cup of milk and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
