- 100 g Fresh turmeric root, scrubbed and thinly sliced
- 50 g Fresh ginger root, scrubbed and thinly sliced
- 4 cups Water, divided
- 2 tablespoons Tamarind paste or seedless tamarind pulp (optional)
- Juice of 2 lemons or 4 small limes
- 2 tablespoons Honey, maple syrup, or coconut sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon Freshly ground black pepper
- A small pinch of Pink salt (optional)
Instructions
- Begin by scrubbing the turmeric and ginger roots thoroughly under running water. Slice the roots thinly.
- In a saucepan, combine the sliced turmeric, ginger, and 3 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 15-20 minutes.
- Let the mixture cool slightly before blending until smooth and pulpy.
- Pour through a fine mesh sieve to filter out solid pieces, yielding a smooth drink.
- Add lemon juice and sweetener to taste, then chill in the fridge for 1-2 hours before serving.
Notes
For a vegan version, use maple syrup or coconut sugar as a sweetener. Feel free to customize with additional spices if desired.
