  • ¾ cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  3. Cut the cold butter into the dry mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the buttermilk and gently stir just until combined, without over-mixing.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface, pat it to about ¾ inch thick, and cut out your scones with a round cutter.
  6. Brush the tops of each scone with a beaten egg and bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
