A flavorful homemade sourdough bread infused with garlic and fresh herbs, perfect for sandwiches or as a side to any meal.

  • Total Time: 405 minutes
  • Yield: 1 loaf 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh herbs (thyme or rosemary)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter, warm water, olive oil, minced garlic, and chopped herbs. Stir until evenly mixed.
  2. Gradually add in the flour and salt, mixing until a rough dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and allow it to rise for about 4 to 6 hours until it doubles in size.
  4. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Allow it to rise again for about 30 minutes.
  5. Score the top of the loaf with a sharp knife, then bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  6. Allow it to cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

This bread pairs beautifully with various soups and can be used for breakfast or as part of a cheese and charcuterie board.
