Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup Buttermilk (or milk with lemon juice)
- 1 cup Flour (substitute with gluten-free flour for a gluten-free option)
- 1 tbsp Paprika
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Onion Powder
- 0.5 tsp Cayenne Pepper (adjust according to taste)
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Pepper
- 2 medium Sweet Onions (like Vidalia)
- as needed Cooking Spray/Oil
Instructions
- Prepare the onions by slicing each onion into quarters, soaking in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.
- Mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
- Coat each onion in the flour mixture, ensuring it gets into every crevice.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and spray the basket with cooking spray.
- Place the coated onions in the air fryer basket, leaving space between them, and cook for approximately 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Remove and let cool slightly before serving with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
These blooming onions are best enjoyed immediately after cooking. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days, reheating in the air fryer to regain crispiness.
