A delightful combination of soft, buttery brioche enriched with chocolate chips and a creamy vanilla custard.

  • Total Time: 90 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Chocolate chips
  • 2 cups Milk (for custard)
  • 1/2 cup Sugar (for custard)
  • 4 Egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Combine the yeast with warm milk and a teaspoon of sugar; let it sit until frothy.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, and salt. Create a well in the center, then add the yeast mixture, softened butter, and eggs. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes, then place it in a greased bowl and cover. Let it rise until doubled in size, about 60 minutes.
  4. Punch down the dough and fold in chocolate chips. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan. Allow to rise again for about 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the brioche for 25-30 minutes, or until golden.
  6. Heat 2 cups of milk in a saucepan. In another bowl, whisk together egg yolks, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla. Slowly pour in the hot milk mixture while whisking constantly. Return to the saucepan, cooking over medium heat until thickened.
  7. Serve slices of warm brioche drizzled with vanilla custard on top.

Notes

Let the dough rise fully for a light texture. Use dark chocolate chips for a richer flavor.
