Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups All-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- 1/4 cup Unsalted butter, softened
- 2 Eggs
- 1/2 cup Milk
- 1 packet Active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1 cup Chocolate chips
- 2 cups Milk (for custard)
- 1/2 cup Sugar (for custard)
- 4 Egg yolks
- 1 tablespoon Vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons Cornstarch
Instructions
- Combine the yeast with warm milk and a teaspoon of sugar; let it sit until frothy.
- Mix flour, sugar, and salt. Create a well in the center, then add the yeast mixture, softened butter, and eggs. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes, then place it in a greased bowl and cover. Let it rise until doubled in size, about 60 minutes.
- Punch down the dough and fold in chocolate chips. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan. Allow to rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the brioche for 25-30 minutes, or until golden.
- Heat 2 cups of milk in a saucepan. In another bowl, whisk together egg yolks, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla. Slowly pour in the hot milk mixture while whisking constantly. Return to the saucepan, cooking over medium heat until thickened.
- Serve slices of warm brioche drizzled with vanilla custard on top.
Notes
Let the dough rise fully for a light texture. Use dark chocolate chips for a richer flavor.
