- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup milk (for pastry cream)
- 2 tablespoons sugar (for pastry cream)
- ½ cup chocolate chips (for ganache)
- 1 cup heavy cream (for ganache)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a round cake pan.
- In a bowl, combine flour and baking powder.
- In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well, then add vanilla.
- Gradually add the flour mixture and milk, starting and ending with flour.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.
- For pastry cream, heat 1 cup of milk and whisk eggs with sugar. Temper the egg mixture with hot milk, then cook until thick.
- Melt chocolate chips with heavy cream over low heat to make ganache.
- Once the cake is cool, layer with pastry cream, top with other half, and pour ganache over the cake.
- Let ganache set before slicing.
Notes
This cake can be prepared in advance and assembled on the day of serving for the freshest flavors.
