Boston Cream Pie is a delightful dessert made with fluffy vanilla sponge, rich pastry cream, and a silky chocolate ganache.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup milk (for pastry cream)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (for pastry cream)
  • ½ cup chocolate chips (for ganache)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for ganache)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a round cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour and baking powder.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well, then add vanilla.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture and milk, starting and ending with flour.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  7. For pastry cream, heat 1 cup of milk and whisk eggs with sugar. Temper the egg mixture with hot milk, then cook until thick.
  8. Melt chocolate chips with heavy cream over low heat to make ganache.
  9. Once the cake is cool, layer with pastry cream, top with other half, and pour ganache over the cake.
  10. Let ganache set before slicing.

Notes

This cake can be prepared in advance and assembled on the day of serving for the freshest flavors.
